The First 5 Santa Barbara County Commission is the governing body overseeing the mission, strategies, and work of First 5. They are responsible for allocating Proposition 10 resources across Santa Barbara County.

Since its founding in 1999, the Commission has distributed more than $60 million dollars to local programs that support the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of children prenatal through age five and their families.

The Commission is made up of nine regular members and four alternates. By legislative mandate, a member from the County Board of Supervisors, the Director of the County’s Department of Social Services and the County Health Officer. All Commissioners are appointed by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. To learn more about our Commissioners click here for our current roster.

At this time, there are no openings on the First 5 Commission. When an opening becomes available on the Commission it will be posted here on the website with directions on how to apply. Please check back periodically for vacancies.

The First 5 Santa Barbara County Children and Families Commission typically meet on the third Monday of every month (no meetings in December or July) from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The meeting locations alternate monthly; one month they are in the Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors Hearing Room, the other month they are in the Santa Maria Board of Supervisors Hearing Room.

All of our meetings are open to the public; we invite and encourage our community partners, local organizations, and individuals to attend and participate.
